It is important to make sure that a venue works well with the theme you have chosen, if one is desired at all. If large amounts of decorations are to be used, always be aware of any restrictions the venue may have for hanging decorations on walls or from ceilings.

There are a number of themes to chose from, keep the following things in mind.

Is the theme broad enough?

Is the theme meaningful to your group?

How will it be interpreted?

Is there a way to keep the theme consistently marketed before, during, and after your event?

Will the theme be motivating to get all employees interested and encourage them to get involved?

Is there a simple logo that can be designed to attach to all marketing devices that will be memorable and recognisable?

How can the theme be maximized to promote all areas of the upcoming event?

Can you integrate a meaningful slogan or personal company message throughout the theme that will stick around long after the event is over?

Themes are a great way for event organizer to increase employee participation and create lasting memories within the company. To optimise the experience, make sure to not only incorporate them into the advertising, but into the food, drinks, music, and setting as well. Take-home thematic gifts or door prizes are also a great idea if the budget permits. Below is a list of possible theme categories to chose from, but be creative and have fun with it. The most memorable themes will be the original ones.

Fashion- Hollywood, The Oscars, The Runway
Global- Tropical, Mexican, Irish, Winter Wonderland, Under the Sea, Under the Stars, Jungle Madness
Time Periods- The Roaring 20's, A 50's Sock Hop, 60's Peace Party, Disco Party, Retro Night, 80's Party

No matter what the theme, if you implement it within all aspects of the upcoming event it is sure to be a success. If at all feasible, try to hire a photographer for the night to record all the fun memories co-workers will share with their friends and guests. There couldn't be a better way to create a lasting reminder of the great event.
